I'm glad they're actually doing it now, but I still wish they'd make it official. They didn't add warnings about burn-in, and didn't cover it under warranty, let alone for longer than a year. I think the same can be said (or maybe could have been said) about LG. Then the fact that they never covered E79, or disc scratching, or Other issues meant that I really didn't care how much I abused their system. Their initial refusal to extend the RROD (which 99%+ of Xenon's ended up getting) warranty past a year was ridiculous. Of course, but I really didn't care with Microsoft. Support is a give&take kinda thing though the more customers in general abuse the system the worse the system becomes to compensate for the extra expenses. I don't know why someone would do that, my bet is on someone at WD screwing up instead and then it effecting the customer. But this guys had the correct size, just the serial didn't match. a 12TB drive with a 20MB one then return it to Best buy, getting a free stolen 12TB drive. The weird thing is though is that when wankers do this they usually swap out e.g. Turns out people like to buy drives, swap the drive inside then return it. He had to go through several people and pretty much prove his innocence before they sent him a new one. The serial on his external enclosure and drive didn't match so they wouldn't fix it or give it back, calling him a fraud. Turns out they not only check the drive is in warranty, they literally check that the serial number is the same on all parts. A guy on /r/datahoarder had WD refuse to give his drive back and threaten him with fraud. Its easier for them to just sigh deeply and fix it anyway.ĭepends on the company as well. Thats because it would be a terrible PR situation if someone would send it with the right paperwork and tech support would somehow lose it during unboxing or some such.
